What is activated carbon?

Activated carbon has strong adsorption properties and is composed of carbonized materials.

It is an adsorbent that has developed micropores of molecular size through an activation process of burning

carbonized raw materials such as coconut shells, woods, lignite, anthracite, bituminous coal, etc. It is a powdery or granular porous material with strong adsorption and, inside it, has a surface area of 500~1500㎡ per 1g.

Recently, charcoal, bamboo charcoal, and palm charcoal have been easily accessible in our lives, and are used in various fields such as cosmetics, cigarettes, and water purifiers.

Adsorption of activated carbon is the accumulation of adsorbate molecules on the surface of the adsorbent, and the amount of adsorbable material depends on the specific surface area of the adsorbent.

The pores of activated carbon represent a complex mesh structure and have capillaries forming a huge internal surface area.

Agglomeration activated carbon, which raw material is more than one kind of selected bituminous coals, is made by the process of blending, powdering, briquetting and other steps. The advantages are stable performance, developed micropores and mesopores, high methylene blue, low ash content, zero floatage, high adsorbing ability, large adsorbing volume, nice entrapment capacity, and low loss in regeneration process. It is well suitable for advanced water treatment process.
